Another form of load assistance springs are Air Springs, one of the most popular and effective ways of improved load carrying and towing ability. They are also more commonly referred to as Air Bags or Air Bag Lift Kits. Rigged inflatable polyurethane air bags are fitted inside the vehicles existing coils springs or for vehicles with leaf springs, are supplied with an auxiliary holding coil which is fitted between the leaf spring and the chassis.

By inflating the air bags within the springs, you adjust the spring rate and ride height of the vehicle. Air Springs improve load carrying ability, compensate for minor rear sag, general instability and loss of steering control associated with heavy towing loads and restrict bottoming out caused by heavy loads or rough terrain. Air Spring lift kits or Air Bag Lift Kits also increase shock life, improve braking and reduce body roll.

NOTE: In order to maximise the performance and handling of vehicles modified for load carrying or towing purposes, it is essential to perform a comprehensive wheel alignment while the vehicle is carrying a typical load that the motor vehicle will be used for.
